(Migrated weblog post from LSR)
It all started with Instant Messaging (IM) chats (AOL, Yahoo!, MSN, ICQ, Jabber, I.R.C., etc., you name it), then VoIP took over the challenge of getting more people connected in real-time and Skype is, probably, the most powerful option to date where the quality and ease of use is just outstanding. And by the looks of it is not going to stop there.
According to an article from The Register (Skype enables video calling) there is a new Skype plugin called Video4Skype that actually will allow you to host a video conference at the same time that you are talking to somebody through VoIP. I know that most of us may have been using MSN or Yahoo! (or even ICQ) to do this running either IM client for the video conferencing and then Skype for the VoIP component as the quality is much much better, but by the looks of it Skype is now putting everything together under the same application.
Awesome ! I I just couldn’t help it and went to download the plugin and after a few seconds going through the installation it works like a charm and the quality of the video is very good as well. And even better the quality of the audio has not been damaged in the process either. So if you are one of those people who would like to put a voice behind the IM chat, or if you are one of those people who like to put a face to the voice behind then I can certainly recommend you give a try to Skype and Video4Skype. You will not go back any more, I can guarantee you that ! At least, that has been my case.
